Modern Lake House

SOUTH HERO, VERMONT

This modern lake-front home on the shores of Lake Champlain in South Hero Vermont was designed for a professional mother and her three young daughters.  When we were hired the existing modern architecture was a stark contrast to the family heirlooms and ornate antiques the homeowner had collected. Having moved from a historic home in Burlington, VT with small rooms, she was having trouble getting her existing pieces to work in her new, modern and much larger open space.  Our goal was to make the home feel more cohesive and comfortable while still retaining some of that unique charm of her eclectic, vintage pieces.  We purchased antique rugs that anchored the spaces and new furnishings that were larger in scale to help the rooms feel more grounded. We relocated a number of her existing pieces in the home to fit the new design and added accessories, light fixtures and decorative pillows, which were crucial in making the space feel more complete.  The final product is a modern home with a touch of new and old where she and her girls can gather and spend time together.
