Mad River Renovation

DUXBURY, VERMONT

This charming, historic farmhouse nestled in the rolling hills of Mad River Valley, Vermont had an older kitchen that didn't function for the owners or reflect their love of cooking. It was small and dark with a lot of wasted space and in need of an update. We helped redesign the space in a way that maintained the charm and detail of the rest of the home, while giving the clients a modern, working kitchen that will hold up to the heavy use they require. We tore out an entire exterior wall that originally had one small window and replaced it with an entire wall of windows to allow in natural light and views of the gardens. We drafted and designed all new cabinetry that was custom built by a trusted carpenter to provide them with more storage and  purposeful space. Every detail was thoughtfully considered down to the width and height of each and every cabinet and drawer so it would hold what it was intended to hold, including a pull out compost bucket that while frequently used, the client wanted it to remain unseen.  The result is a new, modern kitchen that integrates seamlessly into the home and has become the heart of this historic house.
